Background | Troponin (Tn) is a protein that regulates the contraction of muscle tissue. It is located on the fine myofilaments of contractile proteins and plays an important role in the regulation of muscle contraction and relaxation. It contains three subtypes: quick response type; Slow-response type and cardiac troponin (cTn). The former two are associated with skeletal muscle, while cardiac troponin is only present in cardiomyocytes and is derived from troponin T (cTnT); Troponin I (cTnI); A complex of three subunits of troponin C (cTnC), cTnI is a protein unique to cardiomyocytes. CTnI contains 210 amino acids, with a molecular weight of 23.88 KDa, and is degraded from myocardial fibers during cardiomyocyte injury. The increase of cTnI in serum reflects the damage of cardiomyocytes, and its specificity and sensitivity are higher than those of previously used myocardial zymography.Troponin is a marker of myocardial injury necrosis and has important clinical significance for the diagnosis and risk stratification of acute myocardial infarction (diagnostic sensitivity 100%, specificity 91%, and long duration). |
